Job summary

UnityPoint Health-Meriter is seeking a Communication Representative to support switchboard operations, manage calls and pages, and ensure timely, accurate communication across the hospital. The role includes coordinating after-hours communication, arranging ASL/LEP interpreters, and helping with daily telecoms to minimize disruptions.

The candidate should have a high school diploma and may have up to one year of related experience. EEO/M/F/D/V

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Preferred: one year of experience as a secretary, receptionist, or in customer service in a busy public office.

Responsibilities

• Support switchboard operations by handling incoming calls, pages, and messages, ensuring accurate routing and timely communication across the organization.
• Prioritize and manage calls based on urgency while providing excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.
• Monitor alarm systems and relay critical information to appropriate emergency teams.
• Coordinate after‑hours communication, relay messages to on‑call staff, and maintain up‑to‑date contact lists and on‑calls schedules.
• Arrange auxiliary communication services, including ASL and LEP interpreters, to support patient and visitor needs.
• Assist with daily telecommunications operations, report issues, and support troubleshooting to minimize service disruptions.
• Contribute to process improvement by communicating system inefficiencies and maintaining documentation, logs, and emergency communication records.
• Support emergency response efforts as needed, including participation in the Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.
