Job summary

Johnson Electric in Vandalia, OH is seeking a Commodity Lead to develop and manage sourcing strategies for the Americas, driving cost savings and supplier performance.

You will work with global teams to benchmark suppliers, optimize landed costs, and ensure quality while leading regional supplier development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business.
  • 0–3 years of sourcing experience with commodity management.
  • Experience with supplier development and supplier management.
  • Familiar with ERP systems (Oracle) and MS Office.
  • Business-level English; Spanish and Mandarin preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic sourcing plans for the Americas region.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions of supplier contracts.
  • Analyze commodity markets and propose budgets and savings.
  • Establish regional supplier base compliant with IATF16949/ISO 9000.
  • Lead supplier benchmarking and align costs across regions.
  • Consolidate regional suppliers and leverage global alignments.
  • Coordinate with finance for timely supplier payments.
  • Report monthly/quarterly on price negotiations and launches.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Develop appropriate strategic sourcing plans to guide the team's sourcing activities for the Americas.
  • Conduct negotiations with suppliers focusing on terms and conditions of purchase contracts.
  • Make market analysis on commodities and offer budget and savings plans to top management.
  • Establish a regional supplier base in the Americas ensuring supplier operations are in compliance with IATF16949 and ISO 9000.
  • Lead supplier benchmark activities to guide the SCS sourcing activities, including benchmarking other JE global sites.
  • Consolidate regional supplier base for the assigned commodities.
  • Work closely with global counterparts to leverage common suppliers, benchmark pricing, and align costs across regions.
  • Use global suppliers when appropriate to optimize landed cost, lead time, and quality.
  • Drive design for sourcing and manufacturing throughout the New Product Development Process.
  • Expedite materials or re‑schedule per market demand to meet given deadlines.
  • Support spot purchasing activities for assigned commodities as required on the regional and global level.
  • Collaborate with the finance team for on-time payment with suppliers.
  • Regularly report (monthly, quarterly) price negotiations with suppliers based on index and/or volumes, new project launches, etc.
What We’re Looking For
  • Major in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience of various commodity cost drivers, supply base, and strategic supplier management with a focus on understanding material cost drivers.
  • 0 to 3 years of sourcing experience with Commodity Management experience.
  • Skilled in supplier development and management.
  • Familiar with ERP systems (preferably Oracle) and office software, especially Excel and PPT.
  • Proficiency in English (Business level Spanish and Mandarin preferred).
  • Familiarity with Automotive industry quality requirements preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to achieve deliverables on time.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with global counterparts.
