Job summary

Commstock Investments, a family-owned agriculture risk management firm, is seeking a self-motivated commodity broker to join our team. You will begin training beside an experienced broker and build a strong book of business through calls, meetings, and on-farm visits.

The role requires executing futures and options, advising clients on hedging strategies, and maintaining up-to-date records. A Bachelor’s degree and a Series 3 license are required; prior livestock/grain marketing or client

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Ag Business or Ag Finance preferred but others accepted).
  • Currently holds a Series 3 License.
  • Prior livestock/grain marketing/hedging/client relations or similar experience preferred.
  • Must have proven ability to develop long term relationships with clients via phone/face-to-face/written communication.
  • Strong prospecting and sales skills (ex: networking, seminars, or cold calling).
  • Must be able to keep confidential information and perform in a trustworthy and ethical manner.
  • Must be able to take initiative and solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Execute futures and options transactions specifically requested by the customer.
  • Communicate with clients on market changes/sell signals/options strategies as necessary.
  • Assist customers in the formulation and implementation of appropriate hedging or speculative strategies.
  • Develop new customers to grow existing customer base (phone, meetings, on farm visits).
  • Collaborate with Customer Service Managers to maintain up to date records of customer information.
  • Comply with all NFA, industry compliance regulations and company rules.
  • Conduct and/or participate in radio/print/media/TV appearances as opportunities exist to promote both broker and firm.
  • Conduct marketing seminars to promote individual portfolio growth and promote firm image and growth.
  • Contribute to publications/recorded services/other promotions as needed to build business.
  • Be available for customer calls and questions.
  • This is a full-time position. Brokers should enjoy working in an office environment and speaking to farmers all day.
  • Candidates are encouraged to earn their crop insurance and Livestock Risk Protection insurance to supplement their sales.

Commstock Investments is an independent, full-service agriculture risk management firm, specializing in commodity brokerage services, crop insurance and a well-known newsletter called, The Commstock Report. Founded in 1985,we currently have ten offices located across the Midwest with our headquarters in Royal, IA. We help farmers do a better job marketing their production by managing their risk using futures and options. The owner and brokers have real ag production experience in both Iowa and Brazil, giving them a global perspective and direct access to fundamental market intelligence.

We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic new team member to join our staff of experienced commodity brokers. This individual will begin their training process working next to an experienced broker. We have a successful track record of helping new and veteran brokers develop strong books of business.
