Job summary

AVI‑SPL is seeking a field technician in Wixom, MI to perform final testing and commissioning of complex AV systems on customer sites. You will provide technical leadership on major tasks with the Project Manager and document test results from system testing and commissioning.

The role requires reading schematics, testing, troubleshooting AMX/Crestron and DSP systems, and programming DSP code. You will travel to various sites and ensure high quality installations while delivering client training

Qualifications

  • Proficient with test and calibration equipment.
  • Minor programming capability (AMX/Crestron) – changes and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to diagnose complex system problems.
  • Understanding of advanced signal flow for audio, video, and control.
  • Knowledge of IP networking.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration with clients and team.
  • Regularly climb and work from ladders up to heights; lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.
  • Test point-to-point functionality of systems.
  • Review SOW to ensure quality and completeness of installation.
  • Test integrated systems and troubleshoot AMX/Crestron and DSP systems.
  • Field installation of control programs and upload/download capability.
  • Write DSP code and perform minor programming changes.
  • Fine tune audio video systems for optimal performance.
  • Configure IP addressable devices for network communication.
  • Provide client training and complete job documentation.
  • Act as customer liaison when Project Manager is unavailable.
  • Create and manage project punchlists.
  • Travel to various job sites as required.
  • Support evolving priorities and project objectives.

What you’ll do

This role is responsible for the final testing and commissioning of complex Audio-Visual systems during and post build. It also provides technical and management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments, establishes goals and plans that meet project objectives, and works closely with the Project Manager to provide documented test results from system testing and commissioning.

Day‑To‑Day Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints
  • Test point‑to‑point functionality of systems
  • Review project Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure quality and completeness of installation
  • Test integrated systems and perform troubleshooting for AMX/Crestron and DSP systems
  • Field installation of control programs (AMX/Crestron) – upload and download capability
  • Write code for DSP systems
  • Make minor programming changes under the direction of an engineer or programmer
  • Fine tune audio video systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Configure IP addressable devices to establish communication on a network
  • Perform client training and final job documentation as needed
  • Act as a customer liaison in absence of Project Manager
  • Create, track, and complete a project Punchlist
  • Ability to travel to various job sites required
  • Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and projects as needed to support the team and organization, ensuring flexibility in adapting to evolving priorities and objectives.

  • This position will generally work on customer sites and may deal with a construction site type of work environment.

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to regularly climb and work from ladders up to heights of 35 feet; lifting equipment, tools, and materials
Other Requirements
  • Employees operating company or personal vehicles for business purposes must be legally authorized to drive, maintain a valid driver’s license and provide proof of coverage, meeting all minimum required insurance coverage as a condition of employment.
  • Employees driving fleet vehicles must meet eligibility requirements; comply with all guidelines, including telematics monitoring, vehicle maintenance schedules, proper use of assigned fuel and toll devices.
Nice‑To‑Haves
  • Formal education in Electronics or related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of AV Installation experience preferred
  • A four‑year degree or military experience may be considered in place of job experience
  • Experience with Enterprise VC solutions (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Bluejeans, Cisco Telepresence, etc.) both hardware and software
  • AVIXA General CTS (Certified Technical Specialist) is preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, and physical activity.
  • Regular bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Climbing, overhead work, and working at heights.
  • Use of tools and equipment as required.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical support.
  • Warehouse, field, or construction environments.
