Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 base + bonus + package
The Opportunity
A leading General Contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Commissioning Manager to join their growing Mission Critical team, working on a major data centre project in Iowa.
This is a high-profile opportunity for an experienced commissioning professional with a strong background in mission-critical environments, who is comfortable managing complex commissioning programmes from initial planning through to final handover.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for coordinating and managing the full L1-L5 commissioning process, working closely with the General Contractor, commissioning agents, trade partners, vendors and client teams to ensure the facility is delivered safely, efficiently and to the required performance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commissioning process across L1-L5.
- Develop and manage commissioning plans, schedules, procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning activities across electrical, mechanical, controls and specialist systems.
- Work closely with the Commissioning Agent (CxA), client representatives, design teams, subcontractors and vendors.
- Oversee system testing, functional performance testing and integrated systems testing.
- Ensure commissioning activities are aligned with the overall project schedule.
- Identify, track and drive the resolution of commissioning issues and deficiencies.
- Manage commissioning documentation, test scripts, checklists, reports and closeout requirements.
- Coordinate equipment and system readiness for each commissioning level.
- Support the project team with commissioning-related planning, sequencing and risk management.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews and commissioning workshops.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with project requirements, industry standards and client expectations.
- Drive the project through to successful final commissioning and handover.
Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a Commissioning Manager / Senior Commissioning Manager within the data centre or mission-critical sector.
- Strong understanding and practical experience of L1-L5 commissioning.
- Experience working for a General Contractor, MEP Contractor, Commissioning Agent or similar organisation.
- Strong knowledge of critical MEP systems, including electrical distribution, generators, UPS, switchgear, cooling systems, BMS/controls and associated infrastructure.
- Experience delivering complex data centre projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
- Strong understanding of commissioning procedures, testing methodologies and integrated systems testing.
- Excellent coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and subcontractors in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage commissioning schedules, documentation and deficiencies.
- A willingness and ability to travel extensively as required by the project and wider business.
