An established general contractor is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to join the delivery team on a major $800M data center project in Texas.
This is a large-scale mission critical project requiring a Commissioning Manager who can take ownership of commissioning activities across complex electrical and mechanical systems, working closely with project leadership, MEP teams, trade partners, commissioning agents and the client through start-up, testing and final turnover.
The role will have significant responsibility across the commissioning programme, ensuring systems are installed, tested and successfully transitioned through the L0-L5 commissioning process.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate commissioning activities across the project from construction through start-up, testing and final turnover
- Develop and maintain commissioning plans, schedules, checklists and testing documentation
- Coordinate commissioning requirements across mechanical, electrical, controls, fire protection and life safety systems
- Lead field commissioning activities, inspections and functional performance testing
- Plan and oversee system testing including NETA, SCADA, controls and integrated systems testing
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, MEP teams, trade partners and commissioning agents to ensure commissioning milestones are achieved
- Review scopes of work, drawings, specifications and technical documentation to ensure commissioning requirements are incorporated into construction
- Identify commissioning issues and drive them through resolution without impacting critical project milestones
- Track commissioning progress against the overall construction schedule and identify potential risks or delays
- Coordinate the transition between construction completion, start-up, commissioning and client turnover
- Lead commissioning meetings and provide clear reporting on progress, constraints and outstanding issues
- Ensure QA/QC documentation and construction deliverables align with commissioning requirements
- Support development of technical documentation, field reports, issue logs, lessons learned and final commissioning reports
- Provide technical guidance to project teams and trade partners throughout testing and commissioning
- Maintain strong relationships with the client, design team, commissioning authority and project stakeholders
Qualifications
- 6+ years of construction management, MEP or commissioning experience
- Previous experience delivering large-scale data center or mission critical projects strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of the L0-L5 commissioning process
- Experience with electrical and mechanical start-up, testing and commissioning
- Knowledge of NETA testing, SCADA, controls and integrated systems testing
- Strong understanding of the relationship between design, construction, QA/QC, start-up, commissioning and turnover
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, commissioning documentation and technical requirements
- Experience coordinating multiple MEP trades on complex construction projects
- Strong understanding of mission critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure
- Ability to evaluate commissioning risk, schedule impacts and project constraints
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working directly with project executives, field leadership, trade partners, commissioning agents and clients
- Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred; significant relevant field experience will also be considered
