About the Role
Introduction

The Commissioning Field Superintendent collaborates with design professionals, clients, subcontractors, and craftspeople to address complex commissioning coordination issues and is on the front line of avoiding and solving the technical problems that arise. This position is fully onsite at the project in Childress, TX.

Years of Experience

7+ years of combined construction experience, including 3+ years leading commissioning, startup, or field QA/QC on industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, or mission-critical projects

Qualifications
Required
  • 3+ years leading commissioning, startup, or field QA/QC on large industrial, high-tech, semiconductor, or mission-critical projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a commissioning field team, sequence startups across mechanical, electrical, and low-voltage scopes, and hold subcontractors to an approved QA/QC plan.
  • Able to work fully onsite in Childress, TX, work in proximity to loud equipment and across all areas and levels of an active construction site, pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, and work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred
  • Startup and turnover experience on data centers, semiconductor fabs, or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Field experience leading integrated systems testing and load bank testing on mission-critical power and cooling systems.
  • General contractor-side field experience on large-scale industrial or high-tech work.
  • Experience leading commissioning field teams across multiple concurrent buildings or areas on one program.
  • Hands-on familiarity with medium- and low-voltage distribution, large generators, UPS equipment, and electrical installations on large mechanical and process equipment.
  • Controls and BMS field experience, including installation oversight, point-to-point checks, and functional testing support.
  • Comfort with structured commissioning documentation systems and level-of-completion tracking.
  • OSHA 30 certification and current site-safety credentials.
  • Track record developing field engineers and QC specialists into independent startup roles.
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point and Teams), and have a strong understanding of working within a computer network.
  • Experience with project management software such as Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and Primavera Project Planner (P6).
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.
  • Training in design and construction document reading, design specifications, survey theory and techniques.
  • Experience in organizing technical data in a neat and accurate method. Familiar with Construction Specifications Institutes (CSI) MasterFormat.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and field practices.
  • Ability to work well and maintain a cooperative attitude in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work while frequently interrupted by phone calls and questions on work in progress.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to work closely with variety of trade and craft people in a field work situation. Patience and professionalism are essential.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to collaborate with various personnel within and across departments and at all levels of leadership.
  • Work schedule must be flexible to allow extended hours or off-shift work to accommodate changing construction schedule and sequences.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the commissioning field team onsite and manage startup activities and field QA/QC from start to finish.
  • Execute the commissioning levels in the field across assigned systems and areas, from pre-functional checklists through startup, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Lead integrated systems testing and load bank testing in the field, including failure-mode scenarios on power and cooling trains.
  • Witness testing against the sequences of operation and hold subcontractors and vendors to the approved test scripts.
  • Manage subcontractor QA/QC programs and schedule and coordinate the QC Specialists performing inspections.
  • Review subcontractor and vendor startup readiness, including startup schedules, delivered Owner Furnished Equipment, and the impact other subcontractors may have during startup.
  • Drive the commissioning issues log to closure in the field, including corrective work and retest verification.
  • Drive startup meetings with Area Construction Managers, design teams, subcontractors, and the client.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, low-voltage, and controls groups so systems start in a workable sequence.
  • Oversee controls and building automation installation progress against schedule when that scope falls within the assigned area.
  • Ensure safety readiness and confirm all safety precautions are in place before any system is operated.
  • Manage commissioning documentation, checklists, and submittals so the record matches the installed condition.
  • Support turnover package assembly, including O&M manuals, training records, and warranty start dates.
  • Resolve complex commissioning coordination issues with design professionals, clients, subcontractors, and craftspeople.
