Job summary

U.S. Electrical Testing is seeking a Commissioning Engineer to perform final testing, startup, and commissioning of low and medium voltage equipment—breakers, transformers, switches, relays, and motor control centers—in field and manufacturing environments.

You will review electrical deliverables, support with simple sketches and data sheets, perform basic calculations, and travel to customer sites as needed to ensure safe, compliant installations and successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of electrical experience with HS diploma or GED.
  • Alternative: 6+ years with an associate’s degree or 2+ years with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid/active U.S. Work Authorization is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist more experienced commissioning specialists with coordination and review of electrical deliverables.
  • Prepare and review simple sketches, CX plans, and data sheets.
  • Perform basic electrical calculations and review supplier documentation for compliance.
  • Access department guides and standards via the electrical engineering website.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of commissioning, inspection, testing of electrical components, and basic power systems.

Job description

Overview

The Commissioning Engineer team is responsible for performing final testing, startup, and commissioning of low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, relays, and motor control centers, as well as other electrical apparatus both in the field and in a manufacturing environment. An understanding of sophisticated electrical distribution systems of complex electrical test equipment is required. You will contribute to a safe working environment for co-workers and customers and help ensure the overall success of projects. Local, regional, and national travel may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Assists more experienced Commissioning specialist coordinating, and reviewing electrical deliverables
  • Prepares and reviews simple electrical sketches, CX plans, and data sheets
  • Performs simple routine electrical calculations
  • Assists in review of supplier documentation for compliance with specifications
  • Uses the electrical engineering web site to access department guides and standards
  • Basic knowledge of Commissioning, inspection and testing of electrical components and system
  • Knowledge of basic electrical engineering theories
  • Basic power system familiarity with switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, power panels, protection relays, UPS systems, power monitoring systems, test equipment, etc.
  • Proficient with technical writing
  • Knowledge of advance mathematics
  • Basic awareness of industry codes and standards
  • Good communications skills
  • Willing to travel to customer sites periodically
Qualifications
  • Applicants selected must have minimum 8+ years of relevant electrical experience with HS diploma or GED OR associate’s degree with minimum 6+ years of relevant electrical experience OR Bachelor’s degree with minimum 2+ years of relevant electrical experience
  • Possess a valid/active U.S. Work Authorization
Candidate Expectations
  • Electronics Installation and/or Maintenance on Multiple Systems.
  • Using trade drawings e.g.: architectural, electrical, mechanical and civil to identify potential design and installation problems.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including sections of NETA ATS/MTS, NEC, NFPA 70E, etc.
Desired / Advantageous Qualifications
  • OEM certified field service training program.
  • Certifications (desired/advantageous): NETA level III, or IV preferred

  • Exposure to computer screens for an extended period of time.
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Have finger dexterity in order to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.

Pay Range

USD $39.23 - USD $58.85 /Hr.
