Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. seeks a Cx Agent II to support and lead commissioning activities across design, construction, and occupancy phases.

You will verify systems are installed, functioning as intended, and meeting owner requirements, collaborating with clients, designers, contractors, and vendors to deliver high-performance buildings. Ideal candidates bring five years of experience in M&P/Electrical systems or related engineering, with proficiency in cloud-based Cx platforms and mobile tools.

Qualifications

  • Five years' experience with M&P systems, automation and controls.
  • Five years' experience with electrical and low voltage systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Review equipment submittals and shop drawings for design intent and testing needs.
  • Perform site visits; conduct inspections using checklists and tests.
  • Prepare progress reports on commissioning status, issues and actions.
  • Verify maintenance materials and closeout documents for systems.
  • Participate in client and internal Cx team meetings to review status.
  • Maintain equipment logs and deficiency lists; ensure closure.
  • Support retrocommissioning and diagnostics to optimize performance.
  • Prepare commissioning plans; use cloud-based Cx software with version control.
  • Contribute to design reviews and document comments for the project team.
  • Perform other duties to meet project goals and client expectations.

What You'll Do


As a Cx Agent II, you will support and sometimes lead commissioning activities across design, construction, and occupancy phases-verifying that systems are installed correctly, function as intended, and meet owner requirements. You will collaborate with clients, designers, contractors, and vendors to deliver highperforming buildings and a great project experience.



  • Review equipment submittals and shop drawings for compliance with design intent, owner project requirements, and functional testing needs.

  • Perform site visits; execute inspections using prefunctional checklists, functional performance tests, and training matrices.

  • Prepare accurate, timely progress reports that outline commissioning status, issues, and action items.

  • Verify preventative maintenance materials and closeout documents for commissioned systems and equipment.

  • Participate in client and internal Cx team meetings to review status and plan upcoming activities.

  • Maintain equipment logs and master deficiency lists; follow through to closure with clear ownership.

  • Support retrocommissioning and diagnostic efforts to troubleshoot and optimize system performance.

  • Prepare and update commissioning plans and specifications; use cloudbased Cx software and maintain version control.

  • Contribute to design reviews at key milestones and document comments clearly for the project team.

  • Perform other duties as needed to achieve project goals and client expectations.



Who We're Looking For


Minimum Requirements:



  • Five years of experience with M&P systems, automation, and controls OR

  • Five years of experience with Electrical systems and low voltage systems OR

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) with two years of applicable experience or equivalent experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Thorough knowledge of HVAC and/or electrical engineering principles and building automation and controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret design documents and equipment submittals.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; comfort with cloudbased Cx platforms and mobile field tools.

  • Clear, concise technical writing; strong organization and followthrough.

  • Professional certifications such as CxA, CxT, or similar are a plus.
