Job summary

LVI Associates is seeking a Commissioning Authority (CxA) in California to join a nationally recognized engineering and commissioning consultancy. The role supports hybrid work for Los Angeles area projects, focusing on ensuring building systems perform as intended across commercial and institutional facilities.

The position requires strong technical knowledge, collaboration with owners and engineers, and the ability to travel up to 40% for field work. A PE license or pursuit is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commissioning, MEP design, test & balance, building controls, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, plans, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills.
  • Ability to conduct field work at active construction sites, rooftops, and equipment areas.
  • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting HVAC systems and associated equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 40% for project-related field work.

What You'll Do

As a Commissioning Authority, you will play a key role in ensuring building systems operate as intended across a variety of commercial and institutional projects.

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct commissioning design reviews and document findings

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in commissioning, MEP design, test & balance, building controls, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems
  • Experience reviewing construction documents, plans, and specifications
  • Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills
  • Ability to conduct field work at active construction sites, rooftops, and equipment areas

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or interest in pursuing licensure
  • Commissioning certifications such as BCxA, ACG, or ASHRAE CPMP/CBCP
  • Experience with retro-commissioning and energy audits
  • Experience commissioning laboratories, higher education facilities, healthcare, mission-critical, commercial office, or K-12 projects
  • Familiarity with backup power, fire alarm, security, energy metering, and renewable energy systems
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and applicable energy codes
