Job summary

Catering by Michaels in Morton Grove, IL is seeking a Commissary Prep Cook to join our 100% scratch kitchen in a fast-paced environment. You will support daily production, prep appetizers, salads and entrees, and help ensure quality for Chicago’s premier catering events.

You should have prep/cook experience, strong knife skills, and be able to work weekends and holidays. We offer consistent hours, growth opportunities, and a collaborative culinary team in a green-certified, sustainable workplace.

Qualifications

• Previous prep cook, line cook, or kitchen experience.
• Strong knife skills and ability to follow recipes.
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a high-volume kitchen.
• This is a high volume kitchen, you will be working on your feet the entire day.
• Team player with a positive, can-do attitude.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to lift 50lbs and be around high temperatures.

Responsibilities

• Food Preparation & Cooking: Wash, chop, measure, and cook ingredients to support daily production and large-scale catering menus.
• Menu Execution: Work with Party Chefs to prepare appetizers, salads, entrees, sides, and more, ensuring consistency and quality.
• Kitchen Organization: Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary work environment in compliance with health and safety standards.
• Event Support: Assist in preparing food for Chicago's top catering events, ensuring all orders are accurate and ready for transport.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with fellow prep cooks, chefs, and kitchen staff to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Commissary Prep Cook Responsibilities

As a Prep Cook, you will play an essential role in our commissary kitchen:
