Job summary

HL Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Project Estimator to join our team and deliver accurate construction cost estimates for bid proposals. The successful candidate will perform quantity takeoffs, gather pricing, and prepare competitive bids for commercial projects.

You will read plans and specs, collaborate with vendors and subcontractors, and support budgeting and turnover to the operations team. A BS in a related field and at least five years of experience are preferred; proficiency with

• BS degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as a commercial construction Project Estimator.
• Experience with BLUEBEAM, On Screen Takeoff, QuickBid, Timberline preferred.
• Ability to read plans and perform quantity takeoffs.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Project Estimator is responsible for gathering, calculating and compiling data to produce construction cost estimates for bid proposals. The successful candidate will be able to work within a team environment to produce accurate competitive estimates in a timely manner. The Project Estimator is ultimately responsible for the successful bidding of assigned projects, performing a thorough and detailed turnover of awarded projects to the operations team. Reports to Estimating Executive.

• Perform volumetric, linear, area quantity verifications from various sources such as digital and printed plans.
• Reading and understanding plans and specifications
• Collect pricing from vendors and subcontractors
• Assist in preparing accurate bid proposals
• Assist clients with preliminary budgeting
• Build and maintain relationships with clients
• Calculate various statistical data – quantity take-off
• Maintain files of working documents
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor direction

Education and Experience

• BS Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent Construction Management experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ successful experience as a commercial construction Project Estimator.
• Understanding of building systems, materials, design, construction and related management strategies.
• Ability to expedite complex projects and complete multiple assignments within time constraints.
• Proven ability to manage personnel.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office and learn new software programs. Experience with BLUEBEAM, On Screen Takeoff, QuickBid, and Timberline is a plus.
• Ability to conduct material takeoffs and produce bills of quantities.
• Ability to establish priorities and follow up with projects, paying close attention to detail with minimal supervision.
• Ability to clearly understand and interpret project drawings and specifications.
• Professional level writing skills appropriate for correspondence, reports and responses to various clients, contractors and other agencies.
• Drug free.
