Job summary

The Underwriter I at First National Bank (FNB) supports commercial lending and Credit Administration by analyzing borrower and guarantor financial information, evaluating credit risk, preparing credit presentations, and monitoring assigned relationships. The role underwrites routine C&I, CRE, and other business credits within defined parameters and provides well-supported recommendations.

You will work closely with lenders, Loan Servicing, and the Chief Credit Officer to maintain complete credit

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
• Two or more years of experience in credit analysis, commercial lending, accounting, audit, finance, or a related field preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze business and personal financial statements, tax returns, and related credit information.
• Working knowledge of commercial lending, loan structure, credit risk, collateral analysis, risk ratings, loan policy, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to prepare clear, concise analyses and recommendations for routine commercial credits while escalating complex matters.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new, renewed, modified, and extended commercial credits within parameters.
• Collect, spread, verify, and analyze borrower information and statements.
• Prepare cash flow analyses and evaluate debt service coverage, leverage, liquidity, and profitability.
• Prepare credit memoranda, annual reviews, and approval documentation with clear conclusions.
• Identify risks and recommend action; monitor covenants and reporting requirements.
• Evaluate loan amount, term, amortization, collateral, and covenants.
• Perform risk-rating analyses consistent with policy and guidelines.
• Complete annual reviews, renewals, monitoring, and collateral checks.
• Elevate material concerns to management as needed.
• Maintain organized, confidential credit files and documentation.
• Assist with reviews, monitoring, reporting, and process improvements.
