Job description

This position is accountable for underwriting commercial risks to meet company profitability and growth goals.

LOCATION

This position is based out of our beautiful West Creek Office located at 12580 West Creek Parkway, Richmond, VA 23238.

POSITION

Full time (37.5 hours per week) – Salaried Position with Benefits

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm, Hybrid work schedule is offered and a period of in office training.

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Accept, modify, or reject risks according to assigned authority limits.
• Evaluate accounts for continued acceptability.
• Review contracts and request for coverage changes.
• Communicate decisions via phone, email, and face-to-face.
• Review new business and changes to existing business.
• Assist Agents with eligibility and coverage questions.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Agent visitations
• Review Claims files
• Communicate by phone or in writing with agents.
• All other duties assigned by the CL Underwriting Manager

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 3 years Underwriting experience
• Minimum 1 year of Commercial Lines processing experience

MINIMUM SKILL QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work in multiple lines of business
• High level of initiative and motivation
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong team orientation
• High degree of Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
• Ability to understand accounting and payroll document

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Insurance Coursework and related designations (CPCU, CIC, AU, etc.)
• Three (3) years previous Commercial Lines Underwriting experience to include:
  • General Liability
  • Business Owners and
  • Workers Compensation
• Computer literate with proficiency in ImageRight, FINYS, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
