Summary

The Commercial Relationship Manager serves as an intermediate level commercial banking position with functionality ranging from business development using a small business platform to supporting senior bankers as an apprentice relative to portfolio management and experience with complex credit functions. This role drives shareholder value through a collaborative effort to generate quality earnings through interest income growth, via maintaining margin and credit quality, and non-interest income through collaboration with business partners while simultaneously understanding the importance of expense control. This position maintains an average loan portfolio size of at least $20MM and up to $50MM, manages at least 50 bank relationships, and generates at least $1.1MM in revenue for the bank.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Achieve individual annual production and growth goals for loan, deposits and fees to ensure the bank meets its overall financial targets and conforms to credit terms.
  • Initiate and develop new business through outside business development activities.
  • Ensure ongoing contact with new clients to enhance client's experience with First Interstate Bank.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the client's needs based on the review and analysis of personal bank business financial data gathered through relationship reviews and personal meetings.
  • Use internal customer sourcing software to generate leads, track activities and make referrals to requisite business partners and bankers.
  • Actively participate in community organizations to source business development opportunities and demonstrate First Interstate Bank's commitment to the communities we serve.
  • Build client and prospect referral pipeline via identification and development of internal and external centers of influence.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth knowledge of products and services as well as knowledge of competitors and competitive products.
  • Proactively promote bank products and services and keep clients informed of all the financial solutions First Interstate Bank has to meet their needs.
  • Assemble cross-functional team to respond to customer requests when not able to address requests personally.
  • Recognize when and how to bring in teams of experts, as well as identify cross-sell opportunities.
  • Analyze credit to determine the ability of clients to qualify for borrowing requirements.
  • Assume ultimate accountability for all portfolio activities/issues ensuring sound asset quality, including underwriting, structuring and portfolio management activities; assure accurate risk assessment of assigned portfolio.
  • Maintain follow up on existing loans to ensure compliance with internal procedures and other required terms.
  • Research and study industrial, commercial, economic and financial situations relating to existing and new business.
  • Maintain compliance with all bank regulations for assigned job function and apply to designated job responsibilities, which includes keeping up to date on regulation changes and following all Bank policies, procedures and compliance regulations and completing all required annual training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Exhibits advanced credit analysis and commercial underwriting skills, including accounting, financial statement analysis, and cash flow analysis.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of commercial lending policies, procedures, practices, and documentation.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the bank's risk rating system, credit products, and underwriting policies; has working knowledge of structuring credit products for small and medium sized businesses across diverse industries.
  • Demonstrates proficient written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation abilities.
  • Works effectively with individuals and teams across the organization to manage customer relationships.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; PowerPoint experience is beneficial.
  • Displays initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and remain adaptable under pressure.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a wide range of technical instructions presented in mathematical or diagram form and to work with abstract and concrete variables.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or related field required
  • 4-6 years experience in commercial lending, commercial credit underwriting, or the equivalent combination of education and experience required
