Job Overview:
A prominent law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a highly skilled mid-level associate to support a dynamic real estate practice. The role is centered around advising clients on the acquisition, financing, leasing, and development of commercial properties. In addition, the role offers limited exposure to litigation support, primarily involving employment-related appellate matters. This opportunity is ideal for professionals seeking to deepen their transactional real estate expertise while contributing to a collaborative, fast-paced legal environment.

Duties:

  1. Draft, revise, and negotiate commercial property documents using advanced document processing software
  2. Prepare key legal documents, including opinion letters, operating agreements, lease memoranda, and escrow instructions
  3. Manage end-to-end real estate transactions involving purchase, sale, and financing, including agency-backed loans (HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac)
  4. Organize and assemble closing binders, critical date calendars, and signature packages
  5. Coordinate virtual deal closings and checklist conference calls using platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  6. Conduct due diligence, including review of title, survey, and entity documentation
  7. Review and prepare easements, franchise and management agreements, fee sharing, and joint venture contracts
  8. Handle lease agreement analysis, document markups, and corporate compliance matters
  9. Maintain consistent communication with clients and involved parties via professional correspondence
  10. Oversee and direct junior team members, including associates and paralegals
  11. Serve as a primary point of contact for ongoing real estate transactional matters
  12. Submit accurate billable time entries using internal billing software

Litigation Support

  1. Assist with appellate research on employment discrimination cases using LexisNexis and Westlaw
  2. Draft briefs and analyze records using document review platforms such as Intella Connect

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in commercial real estate transactions, with additional exposure to litigation preferred
  2. Proficiency with legal and workflow tools, including Litera Forte, iManage Work 10, DocuSign, Aderant, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom
  3. Strong legal drafting, transaction management, and client communication skills
  4. Ability to lead closings and mentor junior legal staff
  5. Capable of independently managing a variety of real estate deal structures and documents

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  1. Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  2. Good standing with the applicable State Bar

Skills:

  1. Deep understanding of commercial real estate law and transactional processes
  2. Familiarity with financing instruments and title/survey review
  3. Strong writing and analytical skills
  4. Experience managing cross-functional deal teams
  5. Effective in using legal tech tools and digital communication platforms
