Job summary

Larken Associates, a leading privately owned real estate investment and development company, is seeking a Commercial Real Estate GL Accountant to support an assigned portfolio of properties. You will be part of our Commercial Property Accounting team reporting to the Commercial Controller, collaborating with leasing and asset management staff, and communicating with tenants to resolve billing questions.

Key duties include full cycle GL for the portfolio, lease data entry in Yardi, CAM and tax

Qualifications

• Four-year undergraduate degree in accounting or finance or equivalent on-the-job experience.
• At least four years of commercial real estate accounting experience.
• Excellent analytical, time management and communications skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• At least three years’ experience using Yardi (Voyager 7; Commercial Cafe).

Responsibilities

• Perform full cycle GL accounting for an assigned property portfolio.
• Review tenant ledgers, rents, payments and revenues.
• Ensure vendor invoices are posted, approved and paid on time.
• Process weekly payments for select vendors.
• Enter lease data into Yardi accurately (move-ins/outs/modifications).
• Bill CAM and tax estimates and reconcile them per annual budgets.
• Coordinate legal filings with outside counsel, as necessary.
• Communicate with tenants and vendors regarding charges.

Job description

Leading privately owned real estate investment and development company is searching for a Commercial Real Estate GL Accountant to provide accounting services for an assigned portfolio of properties as a vital member of our Commercial Property Accounting team. As one of four commercial property accountants reporting to the Commercial Controller, the ideal candidate must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills by being collaborative and team-oriented and must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must have the ability to manage workload, meet deadlines and manage assigned tasks within larger projects.The successful candidate will have experience managing work independently and as part of a larger team.

A strong understanding of accounting principles and practices and direct experience with commercial real estate accounting (retail, industrial and office leases) are essential to any candidate’s success.In addition to GL accounting experience, the ideal candidate will have some experience communicating with commercial tenants by email and phone to analyze and resolve billing questions (with the assistance of accounting and leasing administrative staff) and to explain charges such as CAM and tax estimated billings, reconciliations, utility billbacks, etc.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform full cycle GL accounting for an assigned property portfolio, including:

• Review tenant ledgers and rent charges.
• Review tenant payments and post revenues.
• Review tenant and vendor accounts to ensure good standing.
• Ensure vendor invoices are posted, approved and paid in a timely manner.
• Process and track weekly payments for select vendors.
• Ensure on-time and accurate data entry from lease abstracts or leases into Yardi (move-ins, move-outs, modifications, extensions, expansions, terminations, etc.) Assure timely and accurate billing by verifying rents and other charges are calculated according to lease agreements.
• Monitor utility accounts and process tenant billbacks as applicable.
• Review tenant ledgers to ensure receivables are current and accurate.
• Process tenant move-ins and move-outs.
• Bill CAM and tax estimates in accordance with annual budgets and produce CAM and tax reconciliations during the first quarter following the prior calendar year.
• Coordinate legal filings with outside counsel, as necessary.
• Effectively communicate with vendors and/or tenants, as necessary.
• Effectively communicate internally with the Leasing Department and Asset Management Department as necessary.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Four-year undergraduate degree in accounting or finance or equivalent on-the-job experience and training.
• At least four years of commercial real estate accounting experience.
• Excellent analytical, time management and communications skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• At least three years’ experience using Yardi (Voyager 7; Commercial Cafe).
