Position Summary

The Commercial Painter applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures. They may also cover interior walls with decorative wallpaper or fabric.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Work safely, ensuring own safety and that of others.
  2. Prepare surfaces by smoothing and removing old paint through scraping or sandblasting.
  3. Fill nail holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate fillers.
  4. Select or mix paints to match specified colors.
  5. Remove fixtures prior to painting.
  6. Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
  7. Create special effects with various application tools.
  8. Set up scaffolding or ladders for above-ground work.
  9. Measure and cut wallpaper or fabric strips.
  10. Apply paste and align wallpaper or fabric on walls or ceilings.
  11. Smooth wallpaper or fabric to remove wrinkles and bubbles.
  12. Wear necessary protective equipment.
  13. Travel to various worksites, primarily in the Midwest, with possible overnight stays.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of painting experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to read instructions and blueprints.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfort working at heights.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands

The role requires frequent use of hands, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally more. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

Work involves exposure to fumes, airborne particles, heights, weather conditions, chemicals, mechanical parts, and loud noise. Accommodations can be made for disabilities.
