Job summary

Reliable Door and Dock, a Vortex Doors Company, seeks a skilled technician to install, service, and repair overhead doors and docks at our Appleton, WI location. You will calibrate balance, verify clearances, and guide customers through proper operation and maintenance.

This role requires 1+ year of hands-on experience, proficiency with hand and power tools, and a valid driver’s license. You will work independently or in a team to deliver high-quality service daily.

Location: Appleton, WI

A Day in the Life

Your morning starts at our Appleton branch with a safety check and a quick huddle. Your service vehicle is stocked with springs, cables, dock leveler parts, and the latest diagnostic tools. First stop: a distribution center where you install and fine-tune a sectional overhead door—verifying clearances, balance, and safety systems. Next, you recalibrate a dock leveler, replace worn hardware, and walk the customer through proper operation and maintenance. Between jobs, you keep precise notes and communicate timelines, wrapping up the day with a final quality check and friendly handoff to the customer.

What You’ll Do

• Install, service, and repair overhead doors, docks, dock levelers, springs, cables, and related hardware.
• Set up and maintain commercial and industrial specialty doors, equipment, and accessories.

Physical & Visual Demands

• Regularly able to talk and hear; frequently standing and walking.
• Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, and operate tools and controls; frequent driving of a company vehicle.
• Frequent reaching above shoulder height; climbing and balancing; moving throughout office areas as needed.
• Frequently lifting and moving up to 100 pounds.
• Close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment

• Regular work outdoors and near mechanical parts.
• Noise ranges from moderate to loud at job sites.
• Occasional work in an office environment with typically moderate noise.

Technical, Math & Reasoning Skills

• Read and interpret manuals, installation guides, safety information, drawings/prints, schematics, diagrams, and troubleshooting references.
• Document accurate, complete job notes, service tickets, and summaries.
• Communicate effectively with customers, vendors, third-party experts, and team members.
• Perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide with whole numbers, fractions, decimals) and confidently use a tape measure.
• Work methodically with a step-by-step approach; solve practical problems with limited standardization.
• Follow instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
