Placements24 partners with a distinguished law firm in Paarl, Western Cape, to recruit a Commercial Litigation Associate. You will handle a broad spectrum of complex disputes for local and international clients, shaping strategy and courtroom advocacy.

The ideal candidate is admitted to the High Court of SA with at least 5 years’ experience, strong drafting, advocacy and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to manage a demanding caseload with precision.

Qualifications

• Admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa with at least 5 years of experience.
• Proven experience in complex commercial disputes, including contractual and shareholder disputes.
• Strong drafting, advocacy and negotiation abilities.
• Ability to independently manage a caseload and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of commercial litigation matters, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.
• Draft, review, and file all necessary legal documents with courts and relevant tribunals.
• Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.
• Collaborate with partners and support staff to ensure seamless case management.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and conduct all aspects of commercial litigation matters, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, and trial preparation.

• Draft, review, and file all necessary legal documents with courts and relevant tribunals.
• Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, and court hearings.
• Advise clients on legal rights, obligations, and potential litigation outcomes.
• Collaborate effectively with partners, senior associates, and support staff to ensure seamless case management.
• Maintain excellent client relationships and ensure timely communication regarding case progress.
• Stay abreast of legislative changes and judicial precedents relevant to commercial litigation.

Requirements

• Admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa with at least 5 years of experience in commercial litigation.
• Demonstrated experience in handling complex commercial disputes, including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, and business torts.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with a keen eye for detail.
• Excellent drafting, advocacy, and negotiation abilities.
• Proven ability to manage a caseload independently and meet strict deadlines.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with the legal procedures and practices in the Western Cape courts is highly desirable.
