Job description

About MGT Insurance

MGT is the first AI‑driven, neo‑insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state‑of‑the‑art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock‑star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles.

What You'll Do
Risk Evaluation & Decision‑Making
  • Evaluate and make underwriting decisions on commercial P&C submissions primarily BOP, with exposure to GL, Commercial Property, and Commercial Auto
  • Apply MGT's underwriting guidelines to assess risk quality, class eligibility, coverage structure, and pricing appropriateness
  • Identify risks that fall outside standard appetite and elevate referrals with a clear, well‑reasoned recommendation
  • Review renewal accounts for changes in risk profile, loss history, and continued eligibility
  • Manage an active book of business with accuracy, speed, and appropriate documentation
Broker & Distribution Support
  • Respond to broker submissions, coverage questions, and quote requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with MGT's appointed broker and wholesale partners
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly — including declinations — with reasoning that helps brokers understand MGT's appetite
  • Support Distribution in onboarding new agents and answering appetite and eligibility questions
Underwriting Quality & Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain high underwriting quality: accurate documentation, consistent application of guidelines, and defensible decision rationale
  • Participate in file reviews, underwriting audits, and team calibration sessions
  • Flag patterns or edge cases that suggest guideline gaps or appetite questions — and bring them to the Underwriting Lead
  • Engage actively with MGT's technology platform including Athena AI underwriting agent, policy admin system, and quoting tools as a core part of the daily workflow
Learning & Development
  • Build technical depth across MGT's lines of business through mentorship, file review, and direct exposure to complex risks
  • Participate in underwriting training, coverage education, and team knowledge‑sharing sessions
  • Work toward broader underwriting authority and expanded responsibility over time
What We're Looking For
  • 3–6 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
  • Carrier or MGA underwriting, small commercial or BOP experience strongly preferred
  • Solid foundation in commercial P&C underwriting including BOP structure, class eligibility, basic coverage components, and risk assessment fundamentals
  • Experience working within underwriting guidelines and referral frameworks in a carrier or MGA environment
  • Comfort managing a book of submissions with accuracy and appropriate prioritization
  • Familiarity with ISO forms and standard policy language a strong plus
  • Exposure to broker/agent distribution and the dynamics of a quote‑and‑bind platform helpful
  • Openness to working in a technology‑forward environment with AI‑assisted tools and modern systems
Traits We Value

Technically curious. You want to understand why a guideline exists, not just follow it. You ask good questions and look for the reasoning behind coverage decisions.

Ownership mindset. You treat your book like it's yours. You're accurate, thorough, and don't let things fall through the cracks.

Broker‑focused. You understand that MGT's broker partners are the channel through which we grow, and you treat every interaction as a reflection of MGT's reputation.

Growth‑oriented. You're building toward broader underwriting authority and want to develop technically, not just maintain the status quo.

Platform‑native. You're comfortable using technology as a core part of how you underwrite — not a workaround, but a real tool.

Compensation

Base Salary: $80,000 – $125,000, commensurate with experience and location.

Equity: Meaningful equity participation as we want you to build with us, not just for us.

Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision; 401(k); flexible PTO.

Why This Role Matters

At MGT, every underwriting decision matters — not just for the individual risk, but for the shape and quality of the book we're building. This role puts you at the center of that work, with direct exposure to a senior underwriting team, a modern technology platform, and a company that is growing fast.

For the right person, this is an exceptional place to develop as an underwriter — with real mentorship, meaningful work, and a clear path to broader authority and responsibility over time.

We recognize that no candidate will meet every qualification and encourage individuals with relevant experience and interest in the role to apply.
