• Proven ability to build broker relationships and manage a production-driven book.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Renewable Energy Casualty Underwriter to join our growing E&S team in New York. This role is ideal for an underwriter who thrives in complex, emerging‑risk environments and wants to be at the forefront of underwriting innovation within the clean‑energy sector.

You will underwrite non‑admitted casualty risks across renewable energy classes including solar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, carbon capture, EV infrastructure, and other evolving technologies. This position combines technical underwriting, broker engagement, and strategic portfolio development within a rapidly expanding specialty segment.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite and price non‑admitted casualty risks within renewable energy and clean‑tech industries.
• Evaluate construction, operational, product, and contractual exposures unique to renewable energy projects.
• Apply strong technical judgment to manuscript forms, endorsements, and complex coverage structures.
• Manage a growing book of business with a focus on profitability, disciplined risk selection, and long‑term portfolio strategy.
• Maintain underwriting authority and adhere to internal guidelines, appetite, and compliance standards.
• Build and strengthen relationships with wholesale brokers across the Northeast and national E&S market.
• Market the renewable energy casualty offering, identify new business opportunities, and drive targeted growth.
• Provide responsive, solutions‑oriented service to brokers while maintaining underwriting discipline.
• Represent the company at industry events, broker meetings, and renewable‑energy market forums.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Partner with claims, actuarial, risk engineering, and product teams to refine underwriting strategy and support emerging technologies.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders on coverage development, pricing models, and risk‑engineering insights.
• Contribute to product innovation and help shape the long‑term direction of the renewable energy casualty portfolio.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of casualty underwriting experience, preferably within E&S or specialty markets.
• Strong understanding of GL, Excess, Products, and construction‑related casualty exposures.
• Experience underwriting complex or emerging risks, manuscript forms, and non‑admitted placements.
• Proven ability to build broker relationships and manage a production‑driven book.
• Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and comfort working independently within authority.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑management skills.

Preferred

• Direct experience underwriting renewable energy, clean‑tech, or energy‑related casualty risks.
• Knowledge of solar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, or other emerging technologies.
• Existing wholesale broker relationships in the Northeast or national E&S market.
• Bachelor’s degree or relevant industry designations (CPCU, RPLU, AU, ARM).
