Job summary

Johnson Controls in Minnesota seeks a Commercial HVAC Estimator to act as the main procurement contact for the assigned branch, developing accurate installation cost models and guiding subcontractor selection. You will lead pricing strategies and coordinate with the HVAC Controls Sales Organization to align project costs with design requirements.

Qualifications

• Electrical industry equivalent experience or bachelor’s degree.
• Experience in building systems or operational processes.
• Works effectively with sales as well as in team settings.
• Solid computer skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
• 5-8+ years as a project manager with estimating experience in HVAC Controls construction or trades.
• HVAC/Electrical industry knowledge is a plus.
• Procurement experience focusing on construction/HVAC with cost analysis.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

What you will do

• You’ll be a dynamic person leading a crucial relationship between our field offices and our supplier base!
• As a Commercial HVAC Estimator, you will be the main procurement contact for your assigned branch office partnering directly with our HVAC Controls Sales Organization to develop accurate installation cost models for our projects.
• You will lead the development of installation costing and the identification and selection of 3rd party subcontractors through supplier development, contract management, supplier relationships, price negotiations, working capital optimization and improved communication between the central procurement teams and the branch offices.

How you will do it

• As an organzied person with electrical or mechanical controls trade experience, you'll develop, align, and implement several different supply chain strategies to deliver the most efficient methods for branch offices procure subcontract labor from suppliers to deliver the solutions we promise our customers.
• Coordinate all operational procurement activities, utilizing the systems, processes and procedures governing the procurement of subcontract labor while ensuring compliance with BOS procedures and DoA requirements.

Key functions of this role include:

• Partnership with Sales during project development phase to own Subcon Installation pricing
• Determine Subcontractor Strategy
• Review total Project SOW, qualify and clarify Subcontractor requirements
• Utilize Estimating Tools to develop baseline Subcontractor Installation Pricing
• Source all 3rd Party Sub Quotes
• Review Customer documents to ensure adequate provisions are in JCI contract to Subcontractors
• Develop, Host, Review all RFPs
• Establishes and maintains effective relationships with suppliers and internal customers

What we look for

• Electrical industry equivalent experience or bachelor’s degree
• Experience in building systems or operational processes.
• Works effectively with sales as well as in team settings
• Solid computer skills, including an understanding of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Project
• 5-8+ years as a project manager with estimating experience in the HVAC Controls construction or trades industry.
• HVAC Industry / Electrical industry / installation knowledge a plus. (i.e. Electrical Supervisor, Electrician, Estimator, etc.)
• Procurement experience with a focus on construction and/or HVAC equipment and services with experience in cost analysis and strong financial knowledge.
• Good PC / software knowledge/skills.
• Interpersonal Skills - Candidate should have the ability to cooperate with people of varying levels both inside/outside the organization and interact with the team to establish and achieve team goals and objectives.
• Communication - This person should have excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to express information/ideas in a professional manner to varying levels of people and customers. Strong English skills required. Multi language capabilities preferred.
