Job summary

IdeaTek is seeking a Business Fiber Technician to install, configure, and support fiber and voice services for business customers in Wichita and surrounding areas. You’ll handle installations from fiber drops to customer handoff and support VoIP systems in diverse commercial environments.

The role emphasizes on-site field service, customer interaction, and handling aerial/underground work, with opportunities to lead complex installations and contribute to technical projects.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of fiber/telecom/field service or related hands-on experience.
• Valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Able to lift up to 80 lbs and work outdoors in various weather.
• Comfortable with underground and aerial environments, ladders up to 32 ft.
• Able to operate a bucket truck with a 300 lb weight limit.
• Flexible schedule including on-call nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and repair fiber optic services for commercial customers.
• Independently complete installations from service terminal to customer premises, including fiber drops and ONT equipment.
• Diagnose connectivity issues while minimizing disruption to operations.
• Install, configure, and support VoIP phone systems and related hardware.
• Conduct customer discovery to understand connectivity and equipment needs.
• Review contracts, site plans, and technical documentation to prepare for installations.
• Support advanced commercial installations across varied environments and infrastructure types.
• Provide a professional on-site experience and be a knowledgeable resource for fiber, gateways, WiFi, and voice services.
• Document installations, configurations, troubleshooting steps, and customer information for future support.
• Maintain working knowledge of aerial and underground fiber networks serving commercial areas.
• Safely operate bucket trucks and perform aerial/underground work as required.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are prepared for scheduled installations.
• Partner with internal teams to resolve advanced technical issues and ensure a smooth customer experience.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and other technical projects as needed.
