The Associate Underwriter is a Commercial Enterprise role designed to build foundational insurance and underwriting knowledge through structured training, guided practice, and hands-on experience.

The position begins within West Bend Express (WBE), where the associate evaluates assigned small market submissions while developing judgment, technical skills, and agency relationships needed for future underwriting opportunities across Commercial Enterprise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Insurance or related field, or relevant experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite assigned Commercial Enterprise new business submissions within the small market segment.
• Evaluate exposure, coverage needs, pricing considerations, and insurability per guidelines.
• Gather, review, and analyze underwriting information to support sound decisions.
• Communicate underwriting decisions and next steps with agency partners.
• Support written premium, profitability, quality, and service goals through timely decisions.
• Document underwriting files with clear rationale and detail.
• Use underwriting systems and workflow tools efficiently.
• Build productive agency relationships and reflect West Bend culture in interactions.
