West Bend is seeking an Associate Underwriter to join the West Bend Express program in an in-office role in West Bend or Madison, WI. The role trains you to evaluate small market submissions and grow underwriting judgment within Commercial Enterprise.

You’ll develop technical skills, agency relationships, and professional confidence through structured onboarding, coaching, and real-world practice in a collaborative, community-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance or related field, or relevant experience.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Fluent in system navigation and workflow management tools.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite assigned Commercial Enterprise small market submissions.
• Evaluate exposure, coverage needs, pricing, and insurability.
• Gather, review, and analyze underwriting information.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly with agency partners.
• Support written premium, profitability, quality, and service goals.
• Document underwriting files with detail and rationale.
• Use underwriting systems and workflow tools.
• Build productive agency relationships and West Bend culture.
• Progress toward underwriting independence.
