Job summary

KitchenEnergySolutions is seeking a Commercial Electrical/Controls Technician to install, service, and troubleshoot DCKV systems in commercial kitchens. You will join a team delivering energy-efficient solutions across nationwide projects, with heavy travel and overnight shifts.

The role requires an Electrical Journeyman’s license, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass background and drug screening. Training is paid, and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Electrical Journeyman’s license is required.
• 21 years or older with a high school diploma or GED.
• Excellent driving record—you'll be trusted with a company vehicle.

• Ability to travel nationwide for weeks at a time.
• Controls experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Install sensors directly into kitchen hoods (drilling into stainless steel).
• Install VFDs to modulate exhaust fans and wire power (120V/1, 208V/3, 460V/3).
• Install and wire new fan motors and exhaust fans.
• Wire and install other low voltage systems as needed.
• Program and commission the DCKV system and train the customer.
• Travel nationwide; 3 weeks on the road, then 1 week off.
• Work primarily overnight shifts with overtime and weekends as needed.

DCKV is the process of measuring the level of cooking activity in commercial kitchen hoods and modulating the speed of the associated exhaust and supply fans to be used only as needed. By adjusting these units, these commercial kitchens save at tremendous amount of energy in their electrical, heating, and cooling usage.

KESTechnicians perform full installations, service, and repairs of our DCKV system and other energy efficient solutions in commercial kitchens.

It is a unique career that combines electrical, controls, and problem solving. Every project is different, and not two days are the same.

KESTechnicians will work together in teams of two, or individually to accomplish the set tasks on each job site. Electrical Journeyman's license is required, please be prepared to submit it upon request.

This is the full job—no surprises on one day:

• Installing various sensors directly into the kitchen hood (drilling into stainless steel).
• Installing Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to modulate the associated exhaust fans along with the proper power wiring (120V/1), (208V/3), (460V/3) as needed.
• Installing and wiring new fan motors as needed.
• Installing and wiring new exhaust fans as needed, and other associated low voltage wiring.
• Program and commission the DCKV system and train the customer on functionality and usage.
• Show up sharp and on time.
• Communicate effectively with other trades on site: controls, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and more.
• Maintain professional job-site etiquette and follow OSHA safety guidelines.
• Review job specifications, scope of work, submittals, blueprints, and safety requirements.
• Travel nationwide; may involve 3 weeks on the road followed by 1 week off, depending on project and customer requirements.
• Take proper care of company-provided tools, vehicles, and test instruments.
• Work is primarily overnight shift, with OT and weekends as needed. Due to extensive travel, weekly OT is very common.

ThePhysicalSide(PhysicalRequirements)

This is a real field job—active, hands-on, and on the move. You should be able to:

• Lift approximately 50 lbs regularly, with a maximum unassisted lift to far around 65 lbs.
• Comfortable working in tight spaces.
• Comfortable working in inactive commercial kitchens.
• Safely work from heights on step ladders, extension ladders, and ladders of various heights up to 40 feet.
• Walk comfortably on one near active construction sites—the typical technician logs about 6,000 steps a day (your smartwatch will love this job).
• Use both hands and feet fully, with full vision and hearing.
• Wear PPE throughout the workday: hardhat, safety vest, eye protection, steel-toed work boots, and company uniform.
• Safely drive a commercial vehicle.
