COMMERCIAL DIVISIONAL MANAGER

Brda Electric | Greater St. Louis Area | Fenton, MO Base Salary: $95,000–$110,000 DOE + Quarterly Bonus Potential Reports to: Director of Operations Direct Reports: Commercial Field Superintendent, Commercial Operations Coordinator, Commercial Administrative Assistant, and 16+ Electricians

Build a Department Worth Leading.

You see a slipping margin and want to know why. You see a stalled project and move people toward a solution. You see a capable employee waiting for permission and ask whether you’ve given them enough authority to act.

That instinct belongs here.

Family-owned and serving Greater St. Louis since 1989, Brda Electric is seeking a Commercial Divisional Manager who wants to build something: a stronger team, better systems, profitable work, and a department that performs because people understand what they own. The company has an aggressive growth plan, and needs an impactful leader to help achieve these targets.

You’ll lead office and field operations with support from operations staff. Your assignment is clear: deliver projects safely, protect profitability, develop your people, and build the capacity for continued growth.

What You’ll Own:
Projects That Deliver
  • Lead commercial projects from planning through completion, meeting safety, schedule, budget, and quality commitments.
  • Maintain daily, detailed project oversight across scope, labor, materials, schedules, documentation, and quality; identify discrepancies early and follow corrective actions through completion.
  • Catch problems early. Use project performance data to identify risks, make decisions, and follow through on corrective action.
  • Align office and field teams around clear responsibilities, reliable handoffs, and customer commitments.
  • Balance workloads and staffing, fully utilizing current personnel before adding new hires.
Numbers You Understand—and Act On
  • Meet established quarterly performance targets for Gross Revenue, Gross Margin dollars and percentage, Gross Margin per Hour Worked, Technician Utilization, Net Profit, and other departmental KPIs.
  • Own accurate monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, job cost tracking, forecasting, and cost-to-complete estimates.
  • Collaborate with accounting on timely billing and collections; address recurring payment problems before exposure grows.
  • Review departmental financial results and manage controllable costs.
People Who Grow
  • Give employees clear expectations, measurable responsibilities, and explicit decision rights.
  • Place accountability close to the work while keeping leadership informed of performance, risks, and decisions.
  • Practice servant leadership: remove obstacles, coach people, and give them the tools and authority to succeed.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching, and training to all direct reports, strengthening their technical skills, judgment, and ability to own results.
  • Conduct meaningful performance reviews and oversee hiring, development, compensation recommendations, and disciplinary decisions within company approval requirements.
  • Build a culture where people communicate directly, address problems promptly, and take ownership of outcomes.
A Department Built for Growth
  • Translate company strategy into practical departmental goals and measurable results.
  • Maintain accurate sales forecasts, staffing plans, and a healthy pipeline of profitable work.
  • Improve the systems and workflows that shape daily performance.
Key Competencies & Required Experience
  • Required field experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on commercial electrical field experience; 10+ years preferred.
  • Required management experience: Prior management experience required, including leading office and field teams, delegating work, coaching employees, and managing performance.
  • Strong electrical technical knowledge: Ability to evaluate field conditions, troubleshoot problems, and guide sound installation and project decisions.
  • Blueprint and one-line proficiency: Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints, specifications, and one-line diagrams.
  • Code knowledge preferred: Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable installation requirements.
  • Electrical license not required: An electrical license is not required for this position.
  • Financial management and forecasting: Strong command of job costing, WIP reporting, budgeting, cost-to-complete forecasting, and departmental performance metrics.
Key Competencies & Required Experience continued
  • Full project workflow management: Understand and oversee the sequence of work from estimating and planning through procurement, scheduling, installation, inspections, and completion. Identify dependencies and coordinate handoffs so projects keep moving.
  • Consistent project oversight and meticulous attention to detail: Closely monitor scope, schedules, labor, materials, documentation, quality, and unresolved issues. Catch discrepancies early and follow corrective actions through completion.
  • Subcontractor coordination: Assist in identifying, securing, and coordinating subcontractors; align their scope, schedules, and performance with project requirements.
  • Clear communication under pressure: Communicate effectively with customers, office staff, field teams, and subcontractors while managing multiple projects, competing priorities, and simultaneous issues.
  • Strategic and operational thinking: Recognize recurring problems, improve processes, and translate departmental goals into practical action.
