Job summary

Discord is seeking an Associate Commercial Counsel to support a high-volume stream of commercial agreements, including advertising, API/SDK integrations, and in-app content. You will negotiate IP licensing for digital collectibles and help structure innovative monetization models for Discord’s gaming ecosystem.

You will also advise on sponsorships, ensure privacy and marketing compliance, and work with cross-functional teams to streamline templates and processes for rapid deal execution.

Qualifications

• Requires a JD and active U.S. state bar admission (in-house counsel eligibility in CA).
• At least 4 years of commercial transactional experience, tech or gaming industry preferred.
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements (licensing, platform integrations, revenue partnerships).
• Experience with advertising, gaming, digital media, data privacy, and consumer internet.
• Strong understanding of privacy principles and marketing legal issues (copyright, privacy, consumer protection).
• Ability to manage high-volume docket with sound business judgment and independent work style.

Responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate, and close a high volume of commercial agreements (Advertising, API/SDK, commerce, in-app content).
• Negotiate IP licensing with game, anime, and entertainment licensors for digital collectibles.
• Review and advise on sponsorship and marketing efforts.
• Structure novel monetization and revenue models (virtual currency, bundles, subscriptions, revenue share).
• Support payments and platform agreements (payment processors, gift cards, app store terms).
• Create scalable templates, playbooks, and self-serve processes to simplify complex agreements.
