Job summary

NYC Public Schools seeks a Commercial Unit Attorney – Compliance to assist the Director of Compliance in ensuring contract and vendor compliance for the Department. The role involves researching vendor information, reviewing contracts for price and performance terms, and drafting corrective action plans.

The attorney will interact with internal offices and external agencies, provide guidance on compliance issues, and may testify in depositions related to contract matters.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar.
• One year of U.S. legal experience after admission or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.
• Strong communication and research skills.

Responsibilities

• Research lien documents, laws, statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures for vendor compliance.
• Review contracts to ensure vendor compliance with terms and conditions.
• Review purchase orders to identify vendor work and goods.
• Recommend revisions to statutes, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
• Assist in development of procurement policies and procedures.
• Advise non-legal staff on compliance issues.
• Determine issues requiring more legal analysis and refer matters to appropriate authorities.
• Draft show-cause letters and corrective action communications with vendors.
• Interact with attorneys in other City agencies on vendor compliance matters.
• May provide testimony at depositions related to contract compliance and payments.
