New York City Department of Education seeks a Commercial Unit Attorney (L3) in the Office of the General Counsel. Based in Brooklyn, the attorney will negotiate and draft complex contracts, review procurements, and advise on copyright and IP issues.

The role reports to the Associate Counsel and involves liaising with multiple offices and vendors to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. NYS Bar admission and 3+ years of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar and three years of United States legal experience after admission.
• Commercial or transactional legal experience required.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills.

Responsabilités

• Negotiate and draft complex contracts and agreements for a wide range of goods, services, and equipment.
• Provide legal advice on the legal sufficiency of procurements and assist in bid protests.
• Assist in development of procurement policies and procedures for the Department.
• Advise on basic copyright and intellectual property questions.
• Serve as liaison in commercial litigation cases.
• Serve as liaison and provide support to the Division of Early Childhood Education on contract and commercial issues.
• Review RFPs, proposals, and contracts, and recommend solutions to mitigate project risks.
• Draft, review, and negotiate multi-year standard and non-standard contracts, including software licenses and professional service agreements.
• Advise the Division of School Facilities on legal issues involving school buildings.
• Draft rules and regulations for NYC Public Schools.
• Review contracts to determine vendor compliance with terms and conditions.
• Negotiate with vendors regarding complex compliance matters.
• Recommend resolution of complex contract compliance matters, including corrective actions or termination.
• Analyze and report on effects of City, State, and Federal legislation.
