The position involves work in ComEd’s West region, includes a take home vehicle, and the opportunity for overtime pay. Testing and Commissioning engineers are a front-line field engineering workforce that commissions, maintains, and troubleshoots transmission and distribution level protection and control systems inside ComEd substations. System and equipment types include protective relays, SCADA, substation automation, power and control equipment, fiber-optic, power line carrier, and revenue metering. Responsibilities include creating commissioning plans, writing livening procedures, creating and running test plans, analyzing test results, troubleshooting malfunctions, supporting corrective maintenance, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting safety and documentation efforts.

Primary Purpose

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Works on larger jobs, small projects; routines; under the guidance of an experienced engineer/technician, on electrical power distribution equipment and associated control circuits to ensure proper electrical operation. Testing and Commissioning work focuses on transmission & distribution substation equipment. The position may require extended hours, including 24/7 coverage during storms or emergencies.

Primary Duties

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on distribution and transmission relays, communications equipment, power reclosers, etc., following guidelines in manuals (35%)
2. Conduct hands-on acceptance and in-service testing of transmission and distribution equipment (20%)
3. Assist with restoring malfunctioning equipment during emergencies (20%)
4. Participate in on-the-job and classroom training (15%)
5. Complete required documentation of work performed (10%)

Job Scope

Conduct CMs, PMs, and project installation testing activities on power equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in a technical field with 0-3 years of experience, or an associate's degree with 2-5 years of experience, or 5-7 years of relevant experience or education.
• Successful completion of the TECH Test, unless exempted by degree.
• Knowledge of regulations, standards, codes, and practices related to maintenance, testing, installation, or service.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics, use test instruments.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
• Availability for shifts and emergency response.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• Experience with electrical power equipment and troubleshooting, especially in Distribution Automation.
