Job description

Job Description

This position requires the ability to join metal parts, such as pipes or metal plates, according to layouts, blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions, using heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use spot welding guns or hand, electric, or gas welding equipment to weld or tack weld pieces together.
  • Unite pipes from torches to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, and operate valves to release the mixture.
  • Achieve the expected temperature, size, and color of flame by burning a torch and adjusting gas and air flows.
  • Preheat workpieces for welding or shaping using a torch.
  • Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces, and make bulges thin and curves in metal workpieces.
  • Inspect the strength of workpieces and measure with a straightedge or template to ensure specifications are met.
  • Climb ladders or scaffolds to disassemble textures as required.
  • Signal crane operators to lift large workpieces.
  • Use thermal-cutting equipment such as flame-cutting torches or plasma-arc equipment to dismount metal assemblies or cut scrap metal.
  • Utilize hoists, cranes, wire and banding machines, or hand tools to position and secure workpieces.
  • Select appropriate welding locations based on metal type, thickness, area, and temperature considerations.
  • Instruct and operate flame or electrodes to straighten, curve, dissolve, or develop metal.
  • Join pieces, cover taut points, and add metal to develop parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
