Job summary

Comanche Nation Headquarters seeks a fluent Comanche-English bilingual to assist the Language Department in creating multimedia materials and delivering language instruction. The role involves recording, transcription, and teaching in community classes and events, with collaboration across scholars and partners.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, native Comanche language abilities, and a willingness to adapt to flexible hours and locations to support language

Qualifications

  • Fluent bilingual in Comanche (L1) and English (L2).
  • Second Language Acquisition or facilitator training preferred.
  • Ability to teach the Comanche language to others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to learners as requested.
  • Assist with Comanche community classes and events as requested.
  • Assist with the production of Comanche language texts/workbooks.
  • Record Comanche conversation, narratives, songs, poems, prayer, etc.
  • Conduct public prayers and singings at nation events.
  • Participate in joint language revitalization efforts with linguists and partners.

OPENING DATE: August 13, 2026CLOSING DATE: August 26, 2026POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Comanche Nation Language Department with Comanche language activities. This position will work with the rest of the Comanche Language Department staff & consultants to create audio, video, and multimedia informational materials in physical, digital, and online formats. Key skills for this position include speaking and teaching the Comanche language, problem solving, listening to and incorporating feedback from many sources, research & data collection, gathering & synthesizing information, communicating with varied constituencies, building & sustaining relationships with diverse groups, and perseverance to overcome challenging issues and situations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the program with Comanche language activities.Provide instruction to learners as requested.Assist with Comanche community classes and events as requested.Assist with the production of Comanche language texts/workbooks. Translation services as requested.Record Comanche conversation, narratives, songs, poems, prayer, etc. as requested.Conduct public prayers and singings at various nation events as requested.Participate in joint language revitalization efforts with individuals, including linguists and other academic partners.Perform other duties as assigned.REPORTS TO: Will report to Comanche Language Department Director.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Employee must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear and see.Employee must be able to move and lift computing equipment.Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5pm. Some weekends.Travel Required: OccasionallyWORK ENVIRONMENT: Professional and Confidential.QUALIFICATIONS:Must be a fluent bilingual speaker of Comanche and English with Comanche Language being L1 (first language) and English being L2 (second language). Comanche Language as L1 required (native speaker).Second Language Acquisition training or facilitator training highly preferred.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively in the classroom and with the public.Cooperates with all Team Members, Leadership and other stakeholders.
