Licensed Colorist

Compensation at Madison Reed is competitive, including base hourly pay, commission, and tips. In New York, Colorists can earn between $28.50 and $43.50 per hour, with an average of $36.50. Actual pay depends on performance, tenure, hours, and other factors.

This role reports to the Manager and can be full or part-time, depending on business needs. Availability during peak times is required to serve guests effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Provide consultations and all services on the menu, including shampooing, conditioning, styling, and chemical treatments, ensuring high quality and guest satisfaction.
• Assist guests in selecting suitable products and colors, staying flexible to business needs and punctuality.
• Contribute to sales goals, including retail, services, and memberships.
• Maintain cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and security standards at the Hair Color Bar.
• Follow Madison Reed systems, policies, and procedures.
• Increase revenue through upselling additional services, memberships, subscriptions, and hair care products.
• Participate in ongoing training and stay updated on products and services.
• Support and mentor Assistant Colorists through demonstration and coaching.

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, bending, twisting, manipulating fingers/hands, reaching, and lifting up to ten pounds are regularly required. Occasionally, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and moving heavier weights may be necessary. Communication with guests occurs throughout the workday.

Qualifications:

• Active cosmetology license in your state.
• At least 1 year of experience as a colorist in a salon setting.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Comfort with operating point-of-sale systems.
• Fluency in English.
