Job summary

Dysart Unified School District seeks a Color Guard Assistant to support the High School Band Director. This role coordinates preparations, exercises, and activities of the Color Guard and Winter Guard programs, directing performances and competitions with the marching band.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required; higher education degree is preferred.
• Experience with color guard units (flags, rifles, sabres, dance) is required.
• Experience composing and choreographing routines for color guard units is required.
• Experience working with school-aged students is preferred; ideally at high school level.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Marching Band Director to develop a visual program including flag, uniform, and prop design.
• Attend rehearsals and performances; instruct in dance, flag, and color guard techniques.
• Evaluate members and design equipment carriage accordingly.
• Choreograph and implement color guard routines for both integrated and independent units.
• Create color guard rehearsal schedules with the Band Director.
• Schedule extra rehearsals as needed beyond scheduled marching band rehearsals.
• Ensure high performance levels through warm-ups and preparation.
• Recruit color guard members and retain current members.
• Ensure color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances.
• Maintain cooperative relationships with athletic and band staff, administration, boosters, and custodial staff.
• Manage equipment for rehearsals and performances including maintenance and acquisitions.
