Job summary

Illinois State University in Normal, IL, seeks a full-time Academic Advisor to support advising across the College of Arts and Sciences. The role reports to the CAS Dean's Office and may be assigned to one or more departments to address advising needs and student success.

Responsibilities include undergraduate advising, academic planning, registration assistance, retention initiatives, and participation in recruitment/orientation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to make effective public presentations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty, staff and alumni.
• Ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Working knowledge of basic office software and advising systems (e.g., word processing, e-mail systems, spreadsheets, databases, student information systems).
• Evidence of a positive professional demeanor that contributes to a positive and fulfilling work environment.
• Evidence of understanding of the issues facing today’s college students as it impacts their academic careers.

Responsibilities

• Provide undergraduate academic advising and planning.
• Assist with registration and course planning.
• Support retention and student success initiatives.
• Engage in recruitment and orientation activities.
• Collaborate with chairs, faculty, and advising staff to ensure continuity of advising services.
