Job summary

ENGICON Construction Management, a Los Angeles-based firm, seeks a College Project Director to lead the College Project Team (CPT) from planning through close-out, coordinating with the PMO, College and District.

The Director will organize, direct, train, and manage CPT members to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget while adhering to SOPs and district policies; presenting updates to stakeholders as required.

  • 15+ years of experience in managing multiple major construction projects.
  • BA or BS in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management or a closely related field.
  • 5 years additional qualifying experience in excess to the minimum stated above may be substituted for the required education.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the College Project Team (CPT) and coordinate with the CPLT, PMO, College and District to organize, direct, train, and manage CPT members toward delivering campus projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Present information about Campus Projects to multiple District stakeholder groups, including College/District Committees.
  • Provide flexibility to assist CPT members in the direct management of Campus Projects as needed.

Job description

The College Project Director is the leader of the College Project Team (CPT), comprised of the CPLT’s Key Personnel and typically 3 to 6 other persons retained directly by the District to assist the CPLT. The College Project Director has the general responsibility at all stages from planning to close-out of Campus Projects and working in close collaboration with the PMO, College and District, to organize, direct, train, and manage the CPT members toward the primary objective of achieving the successful delivery of Campus Projects on schedule, within budget and in accordance with the District's policies, rules and regulations, the requirements of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and as otherwise directed by the PMO or District. As the senior-most member of the CPLT and CPT, the Director is expected to create and present information about Campus Projects periodically to multiple District stakeholder groups, including College/District Committees (as defined in the CPLT Agreement). The College Project Director must also have a broad range of skills and experience that will enable him/her to have the flexibility, on an as-need basis, to assist and supplement the efforts of the other CPT members in the direct management of Campus Projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 15 years or more experience in management of multiple major construction projects.
  • BA or BS in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management or a closely related field.
  • 5 years additional qualifying experience in excess to the minimum stated above may be substituted for the required education.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience within a large capital improvement program and familiarity with relevant provisions of the California Public Contract Code.
  • 7 years' experience in educational facility design and construction.
  • Knowledge of all parts of the project life cycle, including master planning, design and closeout.
  • Experience in formal construction partnering.
  • Experience with the Division of the State Architect (DSA).
  • A valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board or Professional Engineer by the California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
  • A current and valid Construction Manager (CCM) credential by the Construction Manager Certification Institute (CMCI).
  • Compensation: Salary between $200,000 and $240,000 per year. This is an exempt position. The payroll cycle is every two weeks.
  • Holidays: Eight (8) paid holidays per year.
  • Personal Time-Off (PTO): 120 hours of paid PTO for vacation and sick time. Accrual begins on the first day of employment. Additional PTO will follow the company policy and procedures.
  • License, Certificate, and Professional Development: The company will reimburse you for license and/or certificate renewal fees and industry-related education, with a passing grade of B or above, up to $1,000 per year.
  • Insurance: Participation in the company medical, dental, and vision insurance(s). The company provides paid medical and heavily discounted premiums for dental and vision coverage. We currently carry Kaiser and Anthem Blue Cross plan options.
  • 401(k) Plan: The company will make a matching contribution equal to 100% of your salary deferrals up to 3% of your compensation plus 50% of your next 2% salary deferrals. For example, if you defer 5%, your total match will equal 4% of your compensation.
