The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Bronx Community College is seeking a College Laboratory Technician (CLT) whose responsibilities are shared between the Department's mathematics instructional laboratories and the College's new Al Innovation Lab (Room CP 87). The Al Innovation Lab, funded through the CUNY Tech Futures initiative, is a shared hub for Artificial Intelligence, computer science, cybersecurity, networking, and emerging-technology education.
Reporting directly to the Department Chairperson, and in addition to the General Duties, the CLT will divide time between supporting the mathematics department and operating the Al Innovation Lab. This is a full-time, split-assignment position; the successful candidate should be comfortable working with mathematics instructors and a hands-on technology and fabrication lab.
On the mathematics side, the CLT will maintain the departmental computing lab and the testing and tutoring spaces; manage online (instructional) homework systems; install, configure, and update mathematics and statistical software; and update faculty and staff computers.
In the Al Innovation Lab, the CLT will manage the lab's daily operation so it remains open and accessible to students: maintaining GPU-equipped workstations and laptops, servers and storage, and networking hardware; configuring Al/ML development environments; coordinating Al workshops; and maintaining the lab's fabrication and physical-computing equipment (3D printers, CNC, laser cutter, PCB / circuit-board fabrication tools, soldering and electronics workstations, and Arduino, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, and ESP32 kits).
The CLT will support coursework including CSI 12 and the Cybersecurity and Networking sequence (CSN 150 / 140), along with co-curricular and outreach activities such as the Mad Hackers Cybersecurity Club, STEP, and CSTEP. The CLT will also order and inventory supplies, train and supervise student laboratory aides and College Assistants, and enforce laboratory safety and hygiene standards.
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity; Computer Science, Mathematics, or Information Technology; Engineering Technology; or a closely related field
Experience maintaining computer laboratories and classroom/instructional technology
Familiarity with Al/ML computing environments, GPU workstations, and Linux/Windows administration, including Python and related development toolchains
Familiarity with Claude Code, agentic coding, Visual Studio, and/or PyCharm
Hands-on experience with maker and fabrication equipment: 3D printers, CNC, laser cutter, PCB fabrication, and/or soldering / electronics bench instruments
Experience with microcontrollers and single-board computers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, NVIDIA Jetson, ESP32) and with basic networking, server, and storage hardware
Ability to train and supervise students; strong organizational, communication, and safety-management skills
Salary commensurate with education and experience ($68,963 - $75,605)
