Comprehensive Youth Development is a nonprofit that provides a range of services to youth ages 14-24 to help them complete high school and succeed in college, advanced training and the workplace. We serve more than 4,000 young people annually at our three partner schools, Manhattan Comprehensive Night & Day High School, The High School for Health Professions and Human Services, and City-As-School, as well as the Career Academy at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, our post-secondary program.

Job Description:

  • This is a dynamic position that includes individual advising, group work facilitation, classroom teaching, project management, and developing strategies to continue improving our delivery of college and career services.
  • Manage a caseload of seniors to provide one-on-one and group advisement on CUNY, SUNY, and Private/Out-of-State school lists and applications, financial aid applications, and college /career matriculation.
  • Maintain knowledge and relationships with and of CUNY, SUNY and Private School admissions, SAT/ACT testing requirements, Opportunity programs, and FAFSA and TAP processes to assist students and families in making educated decisions about college.
  • Plan and implement college-related events, including, but not limited to college fairs, college trips, representative visits, CUNY workshops, college Info sessions, etc.
  • Collaborate with Guidance Counselors, Social Workers, and Teachers regarding student information and service delivery
  • Meet with Site Director biweekly and team biweekly and provide updates, challenges, and goals
  • Work in conjunction with the career office to refer services, explore career pathways, and more
  • Track all student interactions and outcomes by complying with all data management protocols on a daily and weekly basis
  • This role is on an in-person Monday-Friday schedule.

Position Requirements:

CYD is looking for a candidate who will thrive in a structured, deadline driven, and highly motivated (and fun) college office. We are seeking an individual who also has the following:

  • Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited institution in relevant field required, Master’s Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated experiencein providing college services (at least one year) with a desire and commitment to a career in the college access field
  • Extensive knowledgeof CUNY/SUNY, the college admissions process and components, and financial aid systems (FAFSA, TAP, CSS, Dream Act, etc)
  • Experience in urbanschoolsand/or community based educational organizationsrequired.
  • Strongfacilitation skillsin small and large group settings a must
  • The ability and desire to work with adiverse student population, including immigrant and undocumented students, ideally with a social justice lens
  • Enthusiasm, initiative, sense of humor, patience, and creativity
  • Flexible and resourceful team player – must enjoy working on ateam!
  • Attention to detail and proven organizational skillsrequired
  • Must havecomputer proficiencyin Google Suites (Drive, Slides, Forms, Sheets), and Zoom (or similar virtual platforms) – knowledge on Google Classroom and Naviance a plus!
