Join to apply for the College Aide - Ferries ENG Division role at New York City Fire Department

Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Ferry Engineering, the College Aide will support Staten Island Ferry Maintenance Unit with mechanical and marine engineering duties. This role offers direct experience in activities related to the construction, maintenance, and reconstruction of vessels and their mechanical systems, including ferries, barges, and floating vessels.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Inspection of shipyard work
  2. Contractor oversight
  3. Report writing
  4. Technical documentation organization
  5. Technical studies
  6. Preventive maintenance system improvement

Preference will be given to candidates with strong quantitative, analytical, technical, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school, with employment conditioned upon ongoing enrollment.
  • For IT-related levels, specific coursework in IT, computer science, or related fields is required.

Maximum tenure is 6 years. Students may work full-time during vacations but not more than half-time during sessions.

Preferred Skills include experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
