Job description

Prepory is the premier college admissions counseling organization. Our innovative, holistic approach to college counseling is reshaping how students apply to college, find their "fit," and ultimately receive admission to their dream schools.

Through our college admissions practice, we guide high school students along their college admissions and application journey. We have worked with over 9,000 students globally, and this would not be possible without our amazing college admissions coaches. We are looking for individuals who can serve as reliable, passionate, and informative guides for students embarking on their college admissions journey.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with students and their families to identify their needs, goals, and expectations for their college admissions journey
  • Provide end-to-end counseling, including:
  • Regular 60-minute advising sessions via Zoom with each student
  • Keep track of deadlines for applications and educational milestones
  • Assign relevant tasks between sessions to maximize student success
  • Respond to student and parent inquiries
  • Manage a cohort of students at various grade levels (9-12, transfer, grad school, gap year), typically between 5 to 10 students
  • Support student progress with personalized advising based on geographic location, financial needs, academic and extracurricular goals, and long-term plans
  • Conduct research to support advising sessions, clarify inquiries, or present resources
  • Guide students in exploring, researching, and selecting a balanced college list reflecting their interests
  • Provide strategic, up-to-date advice on admissions issues
  • Mentor students through the writing process for personal statements, essays, résumés, etc., helping them craft their narratives and providing actionable feedback
  • Review and give feedback on résumés, essays, and activities lists between and during advising sessions
  • Participate in biweekly meetings with other coaches led by your Lead Coach
  • Contribute as an additional reader in our Committee Review
  • Maintain communication with the Program Director and Director of Client Success about student progress

Qualifications of our Ideal Candidate

  • Graduated from or worked at a top 50 university or top 20 liberal arts college
  • Experience as a college admissions officer is preferred but not mandatory
  • Deep knowledge of the U.S. college admissions process and familiarity with universities and colleges; willingness to stay current with process changes
  • Experience in educational or academic support roles (teaching, AmeriCorps, research, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and students effectively
  • Availability during after-school hours, weekends, and potentially for international students
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Commitment to working with students for at least one year or through the entire admission cycle
