The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking a program assistant for Educational Talent Search. The role focuses on recruiting eligible participants, assessing academic potential and financial eligibility, and coordinating with counselors to support 9th–12th grade youth.

Responsibilities include screening applicants, guiding students toward college pathways, organizing financial aid workshops, and ensuring accurate records while adhering to college policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling or related area required.
  • At least one year experience counseling disadvantaged youth.
  • Knowledge of English grammar, format, and usage.
  • Ability to write clear and narrative reports.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in recruitment of eligible participants.
  • Assess and document academic potential, financial eligibility, and first-generation eligibility.
  • Coordinate with target school counselors to plan project activities.
  • Screen applicants for participant eligibility.
  • Refer ineligible students to appropriate services.
  • Assess participants’ post-secondary educational potential.
  • Determine tutorial needs and recommend tutoring services.
  • Maintain participant files per guidelines.
  • Assist participants with exploring career fields and choosing goals.
  • Help participants select a post-secondary institution.
  • Organize campus and college day field trips.
  • Coordinate and run financial aid workshops.
  • Help participants complete admissions and financial aid forms.
  • Conduct participant follow-up surveys.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service meetings.
  • Perform other duties to achieve program goals.
  • Be familiar with and follow college policies and procedures.
