The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking a program assistant for Educational Talent Search in the Bronx. You will assist in recruitment, assess eligibility, coordinate with school counselors, and help participants navigate post-secondary options and financial aid.

Responsibilities include documenting eligibility, maintaining files, and conducting workshops for parents and students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required (master’s preferred) in Counseling or related area.
  • At least one year experience counseling disadvantaged youth.
  • Knowledge of proper English grammar, format, and usage.
  • Ability to write clear and narrative reports.
  • Familiar with the population of the target area.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with disadvantaged youth.
  • Knowledge of financial aid procedures and college procedures.
  • Knowledge of Special programs and TRIO.
  • Bilingual is a plus (Spanish).

  • Assess academic potential, financial eligibility, and first-generation eligibility of participants.
  • Work with target school counselors in coordinating project activities.
  • Screen applicants for participant eligibility.
  • Refer ineligible students to appropriate social and other services.
  • Assess participant’s potential for post-secondary educational training.
  • Maintain participant files according to proposed guidelines.
  • Assist participants exploring career fields and choosing career goals.
  • Assist participants in choosing a post-secondary institution.
  • Coordinate and implement financial aid workshops for parents and participants.
  • Assist participants in completing admissions and financial aid forms.
  • Conduct participant follow-up surveys.
  • Participate in staff development and in-service meetings.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the college's policies and procedures.

C.Bargaining Unit:NoThe Educational Talent Search Program is designed to identify youth with the potential for education at the post-secondary level. Encourage qualified individuals to complete high school and enroll in a post-secondary institution of their choice. The program provides individual counseling, advisement, and technical assistance from 9th - 12th grade in career exploration; education planning; college entrance examinations preparation; admission and financial aid procedures; tutoring; cultural and motivational development and guidance on secondary school re-entry to other programs.
