Job summary

Utah First Credit Union in Salt Lake City is seeking a Collector to work with members whose accounts are delinquent or over the limit. You will explain options, offer solutions, and help bring accounts back to good standing with empathy and professionalism.

The role requires strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, plus attention to detail. Full-time hours are 40 per week at the corporate office in Downtown SLC.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior collections experience with a credit union or bank preferred.
• Knowledge of loan products, policies, and procedures.
• Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Contact delinquent, over-limit, and returned-check accounts.
• Identify mutually beneficial solutions to bring accounts current.
• Explain the Credit Union's position clearly over the phone.
• Counsel members on financial needs and goals related to collections.
• Educate on options to protect or rebuild credit.
• Escalate to recovery or legal actions when needed.
• Keep accurate records of communications and payments.

As a Collector, you'll work with members whose accounts are delinquent, over the limit, or otherwise in need of attention. Your goal is to help members understand their options, find a reasonable path forward, and bring accounts back into good standing whenever possible.

Here's what that looks like day to day:

• Contacting members regarding delinquent accounts, over-the-limit accounts, and returned checks
• Working with members to identify mutually beneficial solutions and bring accounts current or into good standing
• Providing professional telephone service, clearly explaining the Credit Union's position, and answering member questions
• Counseling members about their financial needs and goals as they relate to collection activity
• Educating members about options that may help them protect, rebuild, or reestablish their credit
• Escalating accounts for additional recovery or legal action when other resolution efforts are unsuccessful
• Keeping accurate records of member communication, payment arrangements, and collection activity

Schedule:

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with some Saturdays, at our Corporate Office in Downtown Salt Lake City.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Previous collections experience with a full-service credit union or bank
• Knowledge of financial institution loan services, policies, and procedures
• Strong verbal communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and consistent follow-through
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years old
