Job summary

Denison Museum in Granville, OH seeks a Collections Manager to steward the Permanent Collection (≈8,000 objects). You will manage care, documentation, and access, coordinating with the Museum Director and Curator.

Qualifications

• Master's degree required or equivalent
• At least three years of professional experience in museum collections management
• Experience with handling, storage, preservation, documentation, and management of two- and three-dimensional objects
• Experience with a museum collections management system and maintaining accurate records
• Knowledge of museum standards and practices related to registration, preservation, storage, environmental monitoring, security, risk management, and legal/ethical issues
• Experience with acquisitions, loans, and/or deaccessioning of fine art and cultural materials
• Strong research, writing, organizational, and project management skills
• Ability to train, mentor, and supervise student employees or interns

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day care, stewardship, and documentation of the Permanent Collection
• Develop and implement collections care priorities and workflows
• Monitor storage and environmental conditions, pest management, security, and risk management
• Coordinate conservation assessments with conservators and outside specialists
• Develop procedures for handling, movement, storage, installation, packing, and transportation of objects
• Maintain collections policies, procedures, and documentation to professional standards
• Manage the museum's collections management system and ensure accurate records
• Maintain public-facing collections interface and online information
• Conduct provenance research and related documentation
• Coordinate photography, imaging, digitization, and documentation projects
• Respond to publication, image-use, and research requests
• Support object identification, valuation, and documentation projects
• Coordinate acquisitions, loans, and deaccessioning processes
• Assist with due diligence, provenance research, and ethical considerations
• Collaborate with faculty on teaching and curricular use of objects
• Assist with exhibitions planning, installation, and related logistics
• Support student engagement and access to the Permanent Collection
• Supervise student employees and interns in collections projects
• Direct facilities, security, and risk management related to the collection
• Prepare for AAM accreditation and maintain related records
• Administer budget for collections-related activities
