Responsibilities

  • Handle complex accounts including bankruptcies, repossessions, skip tracing, and legal referrals.
  • Process insurance and skip claims while maintaining documentation.
  • Mentor junior Collections Representatives and share best practices.
  • Analyze collection trends and prepare operational reports.
  • Partner with internal departments and third-party vendors to improve collection strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with credit union policies and regulatory requirements.

The Basics of a Collections Representative II:
  • Full-Time, Non-Exempt
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Hybrid Position - After the initial training period, a hybrid work model will become an option. You will be requested to work 4 days on-site and 1 day remote. Allowing for a blend of remote and onsite work based on performance and departmental needs.
About the Role

Do you enjoy solving problems while helping people get back on track financially? Are you comfortable navigating challenging conversations while finding solutions that support both the member and the credit union?

As our Collections Representative II, you'll manage both early- and late-stage delinquent accounts with a focus on loss mitigation and asset recovery. You'll work directly with members to negotiate repayment solutions, perform skip tracing, assist with repossessions and impounds, and coordinate with third-party vendors.

This position is a great opportunity for an experienced collections professional who is ready to build upon their foundational collections knowledge and develop specialized expertise in collateral and repossession processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage early- and late-stage delinquent loan, credit card, and share accounts
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements and recommend appropriate recovery solutions
  • Handle complex accounts involving bankruptcies, repossessions, skip tracing, and legal referrals
  • Process insurance and skip claims while maintaining accurate documentation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor junior Collections Representatives
  • Analyze collection trends and prepare operational reports
  • Partner with internal departments and third-party vendors to improve collection strategies
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable credit union policies and regulatory requirements
Other Duties
  • Support ongoing process improvements to increase efficiency
  • Complete required compliance and professional development trainingMaintain compliance with BSA/AML and Fair Debt Collection Practices requirements
  • Perform additional duties to support the Collections team as business needs evolve
Requirements
Must Haves as a Collections Representative II
  • 2+ years of collections experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively when handling challenging member situations
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Nice to Haves as a Collections Representative II
  • Consumer collections experience, particularly auto loans
  • Experience with repossessions, collateral, or asset recovery
  • Experience with skip tracing and late-stage delinquency
  • Experience working with third-party repossession or impound vendors
  • Familiarity with Fair Debt Collection Practices and financial institution compliance requirements
