Job summary

Greater Texas Credit Union in Austin, TX is seeking a Collections Representative III to manage delinquent accounts with empathy and professionalism. You will negotiate repayment plans, support repossession and bankruptcy processes, and analyze collection trends while mentoring junior team members.

You will collaborate with internal departments to strengthen recovery strategies and maintain strict adherence to FDCPA and BSA/AML requirements, ensuring accurate documentation and compliant processes.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of consumer collections experience.
  • Experience handling repossessions, bankruptcies, and advanced loss-mitigation activities.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and member-service skills.
  • Excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to mentor teammates and collaborate across departments.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

About the Role

As a Collections Representative III, you will manage complex delinquent accounts while protecting the financial interests of the credit union and delivering compassionate, solution-focused service to our members.

You will negotiate repayment solutions, support repossession and bankruptcy processes, analyze collection trends, and serve as a trusted resource and mentor for other members of the Collections team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage early- and late-stage delinquent loan, credit card, and share accounts.
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements and recommend appropriate recovery solutions.
  • Handle complex accounts involving bankruptcies, repossessions, skip tracing, insurance claims, and legal referrals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely account documentation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor junior Collections Representatives.
  • Analyze collection trends and prepare operational reports.
  • Partner with internal departments and third-party vendors to strengthen collection strategies.
  • Identify and support process improvements that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with credit union policies and applicable regulatory requirements, including FDCPA and BSA/AML.
  • Complete required compliance and professional development training.
  • Perform additional duties as business needs evolve.
