Job summary

Jobtailor in Virginia seeks a Collections Team Lead to oversee its collections operations, mentor staff, and drive timely recoveries. You will coordinate repossession actions, garnishments, and court documentation while ensuring compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior collection experience is required.
  • Must demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of the legal collection process.
  • Proven negotiation and follow-up skills.
  • Must complete OJT Collections Specialist I and II training.
  • Proficient with computers and Windows-based environments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with members.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and manage multiple priorities with overtime.
  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Must complete ongoing enterprise-level training including BSA, OFAC, and Information Security.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member and credit union account information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide team leader support for the Collections team.
  • Primary contact for repossessions.
  • Approve reinstatement, recall, or redemption of repossessed vehicles.
  • Lead the team during scheduled overtime.
  • Post garnishment checks and prepare documentation for court cases.
  • Review and recommend accounts for monthly charge-off.
  • Assess accounts subject to right of offset.
  • Manage a portfolio of discharged bankrupt accounts within legal limits.
  • Enter workout requests in the loan origination system.
  • Submit paperwork to release garnishments and initiate repossession, legal action, garnishment, or attorney assignment.
  • Serve as a system tester for Collections as needed.
  • Contact members appearing in court and negotiate resolutions.
  • Handle escalated calls and extension requests.
  • Perform on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching for new collectors.
  • Act as a resource for other credit union staff.
  • Make decisions regarding debit-card restrictions and delinquent lines of credit or credit cards.
  • Utilize Miser, Hostlink, STAR, WebXtender, FDI, credit bureaus, origination systems, and other skip-tracing sites.
  • Appear as a witness in court on behalf of the Credit Union.
  • Contact delinquent members to determine intent to pay and resolve unpaid accounts within regulatory limits.
  • Manage account portfolios, schedule follow-ups, and maximize repayment.
  • Minimize delinquency and loan losses while achieving Credit Union goals.
  • Promote credit union services through needs-focused cross-selling.
  • Document collection contacts and results accurately and professionally.
  • Explain delinquency-resolution options by phone.
  • Assist members experiencing financial difficulty through referrals to BALANCE or other Consumer Credit Counseling Services.
  • Maintain knowledge of federal regulations and Credit Union policies related to collections and consumer lending.
  • Process payments, assist with automatic-payment problems, and answer internal and external calls.
  • Meet individual, team, and department goals.
  • Complete required enterprise training and report risk-management policy violations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of member and credit union account information.

  • Ability to lift or carry objects up to 10 pounds infrequently
