Job summary

USA Waste and Recycling, based in Enfield, CT, is seeking a Collections Representative to work with existing customers to bring delinquent accounts up to date. This in-person position requires on-site presence in Enfield, CT, with no remote option.

The role collaborates across Sales, Customer Service, Billing, and Accounts Receivable to resolve disputes and ensure timely collections. Ideal candidates have strong communication, detail orientation, and knowledge of AR processes.

Position Summary

The Collections Representative is responsible for collaborating with existing customers on solutions for bringing their delinquent accounts up to date. The Collections Representative will have a high level of interaction with external customers, as well as Sales and Customer Service. This is an in-person position in Enfield, CT, and remote work arrangements are unavailable for this role.

Your Role
  • Maintained continuous follow-up with customers to obtain timely payment.
  • Resolve undistributed cash.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork for credit memos, refunds, and account adjustments.
  • Complete and provide account reconciliations.
  • Facilitate across departments on behalf of the customer for disputed invoices.
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Billing, and Accounts Receivable to resolve invoice disputes or other payment issues and have services reinstated.
  • Keep details collected within the system.
  • Monitor and maintain orders on hand throughout each day.
  • Perform final steps to write off accounts to bad debt.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with internal procedures and controls.
  • Communicate effectively within the team and with internal and external customers, which includes Sales, Customer Services, Dispatch, Billing, accounts receivable, and Management.
  • Participate in backup coverage for residential collections and when others are out of the office.
  • Prepare weekly collection reports for the Credit Manager.
  • Involvement in departmental initiatives, projects, or cross-functional training.
  • Support management and company requests as needed.
  • Maintains reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Adapts to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of collections, transactions, and processes.
